Nnamdi Kanu forces Nigerian Federal High court  to U-turn
Kanu would no longer undergo secret trial

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) won a major legal battle today as he forces Justice Binta Nyako to overrule herself on scheduled secret trail for Kanu and others accused of treasonable felony by the Nigerian government.

The Federal High Court presided by Justice  Nyako suspended the secret trial of the IPOB leader, and co-defendants till further notice following a prima facie suit filed by the defendants against the Nigerian government challenging the veracity of the charges leveled against them, which is currently being entertained by the court.

Heavily armed security forces barricaded the Federal High Court as usual barring everyone including the press men from observing the court proceedings of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. However, much later, the immediate family members of Kanu were allowed to gain access to the courtroom while few media men were allowed inside the court premises but were denied access to the courtroom.
Hon Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead counsel of the defendants after his introduction, told the court that the accusations leveled on his clients lacks merit and basic proof. According to Hon Ejiofor, "Nnamdi Kanu(the first defendant) is only exercising his right to self determination." He also noted that that the defendants started their agitations even before the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as the president of Nigeria; hence do not pose any threat to the incumbent Buhari's government.

Kanu further interrupted the proceedings, insisting that his trial must not be conducted in secret and no witness would be shielded. There was an uproar occasioned by our leader's vehement objection to the secret trial.

Being overwhelmed by the situation on ground, Justice Nyako presiding over the matter, u-turned and overruled her earlier ruling she has held. Consequently, she ruled that Kanu's trial would no longer be held in secret.

Further details later
